That strange "gloop" is a pretty old discovery.

Nice that you found it on your own.

There's also a few trees out there that seem to be hovering above ground. R* fixed those trees in some versions of the game. All PC versions have those hovering trees.

And there's a tree on mount Chilliad that's not solid at ground level, so you can walk through it.

I can't remember. I think it is. There's about 3 to 4 of those floating ones and 2 walk through ones.

The gloop is a bug in the 3D engine. It's to do with it being easy to find out if objects are behind other objects (and thus don't need to be rendered), but once you add transparency to the textures, it gets awfully complicated. You can no longer just see if any face is visible, you would have to do so for every pixel. And unless you're ok with a framerate of 1 frame per minute (useful for pre-rendering or 3D animation, but not realtime), that's not an option. So they use a 'hack' to make it work, but that results in several weird effects. For example, you may have noticed in foggy conditions, the red marker won't be visible. Or when parts of the red marker are behind a fence, it doesn't show up. Or the fences around the tanks next to Verdant Meadows (where you occasionally get a Truck mission to) look all weird, sometimes inside-out. And this gloop, you also see it around some graffiti. All because several objects with partially transparent textures are in line.

That may be so, but those are the only trees in the game that look the same at close ranges as they do from a distance. So is it a glitch, or did R* do it purposely?

Remember the non-solid trailer in the desert, that looks the same as a normal trailer would from a distance?

Those trees are somewhere in Back o'Beyond. I can't remember exactly where. Use a helicopter to find them.

And that trailer is the first trailer you'll see on the edge of a hill if you go east from Valle Ocultado. It's in that small trailer park between Valle Ocultado and "reslab" (the desert bunker / mall).
